50 years ago on February 13, 1970 Black Sabbath dropped their self-titled and game-changing debut album.
Many in the world consider this project to be the first Heavy Metal album and the birth of the genre. The band consisting of guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne released Black Sabbath on thefitting day of Friday the13th.
The album featured the songs "Evil Woman," "Black Sabbath," "Wicked World," and "The Wizard."
According to Revolver, Black Sabbath was recorded in just over 12-hours on one day. It's incredible to think that something recorded in that fast timespan became the blueprint for countless songs in the genre that followed. Despite it's initial success the album was not a favorite of many critics.
Despite Ozzy Osbourne's ongoing battle with Parkinson's he is still scheduled for a North American run of his No More Tours 2 tour, which will kick off on May 27th in Atlanta, GA. The Prince of Darkness is still planning to tour if he is well enough and has been working very hard to be able to. His new album Ordinary Man drops next month.
